Nice atmosphere. However, our party of 4 did get sat at one of those tiny 4 top tables that feel crowded and placed in the middle of the isle. I'll know to request to not be sat there next time. The food was very good. I would order the veal dish again. The calamari app is a little different as you would eat it with a spoon/fork but has very good flavor. The only downside to the evening besides the less cozy seating, was the server. I forget her name but no real personality and would do fly bys while checking up. Not really stopping to talk but would mumble something as she whizzed by. She brought the check while we still had full cocktails and kept urging us to leave. Clearly the card was not on the tray but came up three times and said, oh, you don't have your card down yet. Otherwise, I still recommend this place and a nice Dublin gem.
Our first visit to Oscars and we loved it! (So much that we've already been back twice) The service was awesome - the food was amazing and the restaurant interior is warm and inviting. The butternut squash soup (seasonal), the house salad and the deviled eggs were delicious and different from what you'd normally see on most menus. Other dishes are pictured. The prices were extremely reasonable as well which was a pleasant surprise. We've only been there for lunch but are looking forward to going back for dinner where the menu has even more choices.
Great old school bar in the hidden gem of a local Dublin restaurant. Nice to find a restaurant that is not a corporate owned restaurant with old school values and service. I am definitely adding this one to my go to list. Food is prepared by a chef that has been with restaurant for 25 years. Side note, the sourdough bread is from 25 year old starter. I got the chicken and angel hair and with got the veal piccata. They also have a great happy hour and yes, they have 2 ounce pours at very reasonable prices. They also have a very nice outdoor patio.
Summary - Oscar's has delicious food and good service while dining in a nice atmosphere. Made for a lovely dinner out. Now for more info - I wasn't sure about this place after reading some of the reviews but my experience was really good and would absolutely go back. I had never eaten here before so it was a first for me so can't compare it to years ago. Parking was relatively easy in this congested area. There is parking for the business behind it so lucked out and everyone we met here was all able to park outback. I liked our server and she was very personable. The overall service was decent and friendly. There were five of us in the party but some observations would be that she really could have been more attentive throughout the meal. We had to ask to get some of the dishes out of the way and keep an eye out when we needed her. The dishes thing happened between each course. Also, several people in our group was drinking and I felt the server was really pushy with one of our friends over the wine. Our friend had enjoyed a few glasses of wine throughout the meal and at the end the server kept offering that last glass after our friend declined. She said it would just go to waste if no one ordered it and brought this up several times. I feel the need to highlight she wasn't giving it away nor there was an incentive. Just really wanted our friend to purchase that last glass of the bottle. Our friend was done and didn't. I personally think that with the amount of money the table was spending (5 people drinking, ordering apps, dinners, and dessert) she should have just asked the bartender if he would be willing to comp it if they wanted it gone that badly. The atmosphere inside was warm and inviting. The inside is cozy but you have enough room, there is the bar area, two dining areas, and the patio. It's a great atmosphere with a sophisticated presence inside and more casual on the out. Food - good portion size and delightfully surprising flavors. Presentation was good and loved the colors and appearance, it really added to the appeal. I started with the Grilled Steak Sticks. They were served with pickled radish and a yummy peppercorn horseradish sauce. I had to try this based on some other reviews and it was a solid choice. For my main dish I went with the Spicy Crunch Tilapia. Love the crunch topping and it had a honey hot sauce. There were blue cheese potato wedges and this phenomenal Memphis mustard slaw. Washed it all down with a large bottle of Pellegrino mineral water and finish my meal with a banana cream pie. It resembled more of a tart than a slice of pie but it was oh so good. Two other friends at the dinner got chocolate margaritas to go at the bar. This bridge park area is part of a designated outdoor refreshment area (DORA) so you can take drinks to go. When those martinis were delivered our one asked if those were shots. He was being serious thinking it was a mistake from the bartender. I thought they were shots too. And just thinking, they could have given our wine girl that last glass to go. Maybe that's why the martinis were the size of shots (just kidding). In all seriousness, the food was the best part and I love the restaurant. I look forward to trying other dishes in the future. Dining here made for a nice Friday night out with friends and It's a cool place. After dinner we took a stroll over the bridge and enjoyed bridge park before heading home. Definitely recommend.
Great local owned long term Dublin restaurant. Enjoyed a great meal with friends. Haley was a terrific server. I loved the spicy crispy tilapia. Lots of flavors on one plate. My friend enjoyed her walleye and is a huge fan of the au gratin potatoes. Love all the salad choices but the pastas are just ok.
I get the feeling that Oscar's used to be one of the only nice restaurants in the area many moons ago. It's interesting how the crowd of patrons changes over the course of the evening. It's clear that Oscar's has a ton of 'regulars' of all age ranges and that they work to satisfy everyone. The interior of the restaurant is dimly lit with low ceilings, definitely an intimate vibe. The bar is to the right and the room to the left has booths and tables. They fit as many as they can because they fill up quickly! It's a cozy spot. We ordered an Old Fashioned and a Kettle One Martini, extra dirty. Our drinks were satisfactory! We ordered another round after dinner because it was Friday night and we were feelin' sassy. I had a salad, the steak skewer app, and the smoked trout dip with crostinis. The salad had lots of dressing which I loved, I usually ask for extra. The dip was delish also! I'll admit that I left it on the counter when I got home later and came back to the kitchen to find that my cats also thought it was delicious. My steak skewer was super tasty, as was my friend's filet-- he actually loves Oscar's and is the reason we decided to check it out that evening. I'd say if I am ever in the area looking for a steakhouse I'd stop in again for sure. The service was excellent. Human and kitty-approved.
I've lived right by old Dublin for three years now and Oscar's has always been one of those places we just walk past in pursuit of all the other restaurant options. So we finally decided to go for restaurant week and I'm so glad we did! The food was incredible and the place was packed. We haven't been back since because if you don't have a reservation at a restaurant in Dublin you're not eating... Oscar's doesn't even have a waitlist most nights because they're completely booked. I definitely plan on trying to go back once it's warmer out because they do have a large patio! Service could have been better, but again the restaurant was packed and it was restaurant week... but our waitress spent a good deal of time ignoring us. Food came out quickly which was great, but we were never finished with the previous course before it did.
I went here for Restaurant Week so I paid $30 for a 3 course meal which is a steal! There is a parking lot in the back of the restaurant for free, metered parking in front, and a parking lot nearby so no need to worry about parking! The ambience is darker and more elegant, but you do not need to dress up. We were seated right away for our reservation. The waiter was patient with us as we had a friend who came late. He brought out waters and fresh bread with butter. They warm the bread up which is a dangerous game as I will stuff my face with bread! We ordered off of the restaurant week menu. I started off with the meatballs, filet mignon for my entree, and creme brûlée for my dessert. The food came out in a decent amount of time considering how busy they were. My meatballs were very moist and tender and doused in a decent amount of marina sauce! I got to try my friend's thai stir fried calamari and it was delicious. The entrees came out and my filet mignon was perfectly medium rare and on a bed of mashed potatoes. We ended with dessert and the creme brulee was okay. There was not much of a crunch from the sugar coating on top so you do not get the balance in texture. The other desserts were good though! Overall, I got a value out of my meal!
